Practice 10: Problem-solution paragraphs.

There is an urgent need for Alhama’s IES Valle de Leiva to be rebuilt. The current highschool building is more than fifty years old and in very poor conditions: the ceilings have leaks, the walls are full of cracks, and the classrooms are too small to accommodate the 700 students that attend this highschool on average every year. A simple solution would be to restore the pre-existing premises, in order to reduce costs and to keep the highschool in its usual location. However, this solution is not a viable one since it would be impossible to relocate the students during the restoration works. Another widely popular remedy would be to build a new highschool near the El Praíco sports centre, which is close to the highschool’s current location as well as a very populated neighbourhood. Unfortunately, these grounds have been found to be prone to sinking, and no parking spaces can be found in the area. A more fitting solution would be to rebuild the highschool in the new residential area to the north-west: Nueva Espuña. This place may be further away from the current location, but it has plenty of space for a bigger building and a parking lot, and it is surrounded by peaceful paths and gardens. Out of the many possible solutions to the problem, the most sensible of them would be to rebuild the IES Valle de Leiva in Nueva Espuña.
