1. The topics of this TED talk are two: education and creativity. The main idea is that creativity is just as important as literacy. The speaker introduces this idea at the end of the introduction.
2. The speaker uses anecdotes, facts and quotations from people who are related to the topics discussed to support his idea.
3. The speaker concludes with a summary of all that he has explained, and he also restates his main idea.
I agree with the speaker on the idea that conventional education is killing creativity. Nowadays, eight to nine different types of human intelligence are scientifically recognised. However, the vast majority of our education consists in memorising and reproducing information. Subjects such as music, sports, arts and philosophy are scorned, being usually optional. These subjects are crucial to help us develop the whole of our intelligence and to find out what we are best at; this is the reason why all of these diverse subjects should be mandatory in public education systems. Our schools ought to stop focusing on memoristical education and give way to a new methodology that can develop the whole of a person’s intellectual potential.
