13. Using e-mail.

11/10/2021, 11:14 - 11:29.

I have a special hatred towards writing emails, even though I’m not so bad at it. The problem I have with email is that I only ever use it to communicate with college staff and corporations, and so I always have to use a “professional format”. I can handle using formal language and all of that, but email etiquette is beyond me. It’s just ridiculous sometimes! Last month I received a confirmation email from college reading “Dear Mx. Valverde Montalbán: That is correct. Kind regards.”

I’ve only ever enjoyed writing emails when I’ve used them to precisely make fun of email. Two years ago, a friend from college complained that she never got anything interesting in her inbox, and so I wrote her a ridiculous daily email for a whole month. On a more recent example, when Facebook, WhatsApp and whatnot were down last week, a classmate jokingly said “If anyone wants to contact me please use the UMU Webmail”, so I obliged and sent him a very professionally formatted email through Webmail saying “good night xoxo”.
